11/01 - AED's do SAVE Lives - Latest story - Find out more about and AED success story!!!

The facility where we work is a manufacturing plant. Several of the employees are Firefighters/First Responders and they have worked with the Company to set up a First Response Team at work which includes First Aid attendants and the Firefighters/First Responders. An AED was purchased in November and Team members were trained on it.

An employee came into First Aid complaining of chest pains, and feeling
weak. He did not want to go to the hospital, and his blood pressure
readings were not high. Later he came back to First Aid and said his son
was coming to get him, that he was going to lay down til he got there.
Before the son arrived the nurse heard his breathing change and went in
to check on him. 
She sent word to the other Team members and got the AED. It indicated that he should be shocked, and she proceeded. About that time, other members began arriving. While he now had a pulse, he was not breathing, so rescue breathing was started. Soon he was breathing on his own again.

Once pulse and respirations were established he seemed to recover rather quickly, beyond anyone's expectations. The guys who have used the AED with the Fire Dept believe it was due to the quick response time with the AED.

He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where tests showed two 100% blockages.
